IT&C, BDIS and CryoTechnics develop a spark free abrasive cleaning solution for the Oil Gas industry

It has been a long held belief that abrasive grit blast cleaning operations create sources of ignition through the very nature of the physical/mechanical interaction of the abrasive and the surface being cleaned.

By using the CryoAdd Technology IT&C, BDIS and CryoTechnics have developed a spark free abrasive solution
CryoAdd dry ice cleaning with our unique Cryo abrasives is intrinsically safe in Zone 0 areas, and they can be used on and around operating process streams and systems, as well as storage tanks.

The petroleum and petrochemical industries now have the ability to plan and execute on-line cleaning and surface preparation for NDE testing for coating repair or replacement. Bolting interfaces, valve stems or critical piping systems can also be cleaned on-line, which upon shutdown will accelerate maintenance programs and system/component disassembly.
Performing these types of cleaning operations on-line will significantly shorten any scheduled shutdown.

BDIS to pioneer Hotblast in the Gulf region

Qatar'S Buzwair Dry Ice Services are to offer Hotblast.

Hotblast is a proven method of using Dry ice cleaning on live electrics.

Together with Hotblast AS a JV between Artic Milo and Stange Energi AUS AS and Sjøfossen Energi AS Norway who pioneered the process BDIS will offer the unique cost saving service of being able to clean insulators transformers and other electrical items whilst on line offering its clients huge savings in no downtime.

Buzwair Group establishes dry ice company

Qatar’s Buzwair Group has joined forces with IT&C Ltd from the UK to establish Buzwair Dry Ice Services (BDIS), a first of its kind facility in Qatar and the GCC region.

Based in the new industrial area, the company provides food grade CO2 liquid, a dry ice production plant, and a dry ice service division, which will open shortly. Technical director Steve Noel said that dry ice blast cleaning covers the whole spectrum of industries including the oil, gas and food industries.

“our joint venture is already carrying out work in the Ras Laffan area and shown the benefits to the gas industry by carrying out cleaning tasks on line, which means that the customer does not lose any productivity by not having to shut down his operating systems,” Noel stated.

Dry-ice blasting with additives

Dry-ice blasting with additives is the new alternative for conventional blasting techniques. Compared to sand blasting you will be able to reduce the volume of your used blasting agent with a factor 12 to in some cases even 40. This makes cleaning up after the job a lot easier. In some cases it is possible to blast with the CryoAdd system, where sand blasting is not allowed because of the fact that it makes up to 40 times as much waste to clean up.

Still much more environment friendly than sand blasting and far more powerful than dry ice blasting. With only 3 to 8 kg of additives per hour, mixed with approximately 30 kg of dry ice, you can easily remove paint, bitumen, rubber or even corrosion from metal surfaces without big dust cloud.

How does this system work?
This system more or less works like dynamite. If you would like to remove a floor and you put a loose stick of dynamite on the floor, it will make a small dent into this floor and blast away everything around it. If you drill a hole in the same floor and you put the dynamite stick in it, it will blast away the floor much easier.

To gain the same effect of the explosive sublimation of dry ice, the CryoAdd system make little holes in the contamination or in a surface with CryoSand. In the dry ice/sand mixture in the blasting stream the dry ice particles are being propelled into these tiny holes. This way they will be able to work from within these holes, making the explosive sublimation of the particles much more effective.

Non-abrasive and abrasive
CryoSand White is in most cases non abrasive, but it penetrates the contamination that you would like to remove, making it possible to get more effect from the explosive sublimation. In most cases the surface you want to clean remains intact with this agent.

CryoSand Black is the abrasive type of sand. When this agent is added to the dry ice particles, you are able to remove rust from steel or colouring in (stainless) steel caused by welding. Because of the fact that CryoSand Black penetrates the surface of metals, glass and most other hard surfaces, it enables you to remove the top layer. Together with the explosive sublimation of dry ice, you will get the same results as conventional blasting, but with only a fraction of the waste. Surface after treatment: SA 2,5

Faster, and therefore cheaper
In some cases machines, or machine parts, no longer need to be disassembled for cleaning. In-line cleaning is sometimes possible. This cuts lost production time to a minimum.

Environmentally-friendly
CryoAdd blasting is an excellent alternative for conventional (sand) blasting because the fact that is uses less (Cryo)Sand and therefore it does not produce the same volume of waste to your waste stream.
Advantages CO² with additives
-Cleans faster
-Removes very hard contaminations
-The base material has a sandblasting result
-Possibility of CryoAdd blasting in production factories
-Less dust and waste compared to sandblasting (reduction of 90%)

Applications CO² with additives
-Rust
-Paint
-Buildings
-Bitumen
-Teflon

Scraped Ice Particles
If you want, you could also use the CryoAdd as a dry ice blaster. It is possible to blast with scraped ice for delicate surfaces. Dry Ice pellets, blocks or nuggets are ground into fine or rough crystal parts (like sugar).

Advantages Scraped Ice Particles
When particles of a defined small granular size are being used for cleaning, solid CO² pellets, blocks or nuggets are ground into fine or rough sugar crystal particles, its increasing the impact points per more than 250 times and thereby drastically reducing impact sublimation. This new format utilizes the Dry Ice media more efficiently than any other method.

The scraper system create particles of substantially reduced individual mass, compared to standard Dry Ice pellets without any loss of cleaning power. It is the distribution of equal Dry Ice mass over a much larger amount of impact points, which gives CO² scraping cleaning the ability to clean very sensitive surfaces.

Applications scraped ice particles
-Electrical boxes
-Generator and motor windings
-Electronics
-Circuit boards
-Semi conductor tools
-Wood
-Soft sand and stone substrates
-Smoke damages
-Injection moulds
-Monuments
-Welding residues
-Chemistry
-Radioactive decontamination
-Food: chocolate, grease, flour
-Printing presses
